Born the last of seven children in Kenya, East Africa, Peter's childhood was tough but packed with many morals, values and life lessons.  At the age of five his father who was the son of Chief Karuri died, leaving his mom to raise seven children alone.  Without a formal education herself, she believed that education was the roadmap out of poverty.  So whenever opportunity was presented, she would save money for school fees or teach a life lesson to her children.  Today, as adults they quote their mother's words of wisdom.  She has lived to see all of her children and grandchildren educated and successful and just celebrated her 96th birthday.

Peter came to the America in 1979 to attend college and is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace in Berea, Ohio and the University of Toledo. He worked sometimes 5 or more jobs at the same time while carrying a full college load merely to survive.  Fortunately, an opportunity came his way in the form of a fellow Kenyan, Dr. Daniel Kabithe who paid him to transcribe an English dictionary to Kiswahili in 1980.  It required a lot of research writing and rewriting.   The book proved to be a valuable experience later in his life and it was probably his first notable publication experience. After graduating from college with his undergraduate degree, Peter was recruited as an Assistant Manager for a General Mills restaurant chain. Less than three years later he changed careers and joined  Broadview Savings & Loan Bank as a Relief Manager.
