| WE ARE AT A CROSSROAD |

“THE WORST OF TIMES AND THE BEST OF TIMES”We have experienced economic hardships, erosion of capital and losses not seen since the 1929 depression Many have been asking, “How did we get here? When do we get off this train, and who is responsible for the crash?” This is the worst of times both economically and socially. We are faced by many financial hardships –erosion of our retirement savings about 40% drop in our investments in the market, an industrial property value decline of about 12 million and closing of many businesses. While answers to this question are important, we must understand the fundamentals of what we must undertake to ensure a meaningful recovery. This must start with helping both small business and the middle class, by denying this we will be unable to increase employment, and get the consumer confidence and stabilize our industries. Other sectors demanding immediate attention are education, technology, energy and infrastructure. This is the best of times -What do I mean? We have achieved a significant milestone in our Democratic process by electing the first black President. My mother once said, “In the midst of our problems there lies opportunity to make our difficulties our solution” People should not be afraid of the times we are living in; we should be encouraged by working together for the common good of all by embracing our ingenuity, tapping our resources and building better and stronger communities. We will prevail and emerge stronger than before. This by itself gives me hope and encouragement of a brighter tomorrow. Please join me in embracing our individual strength; strengthening our youth through investing in education, families, jobs and business. We must invest in our people; the government must inject capital not only to Wall Street but Main Street. The new President is doing a good job in bringing a first class financial team that is well seasoned but together they should be able to fit the ground running from day one to get us on track. In conclusion I’m encouraged that we can turn the worst of times into the best of times in 2009. Mzee Peter Wairegi Publisher and CEO |
